Latin Halloween Shop
We’ve made an Etsy shop with some Latin Halloween designs! Two of my favorites are the 12 Latin words for ghost design and the the “Bibamus!” skeleton cupbearer based on a Pompeian mosaic. I’ve also started adding designs with adages, usually from Erasmus’s collection, which, if you follow our social media, you may be used to seeing by now :). The “Abi ad corvos” design is an adage that means “Drop dead!” that was originally Greek and literally translates as “Go to the crows,” as some crows are carrion birds. There are also designs with well-known Latin quotes, e.g. “Odi et amo.”
Reading Scary Latin Stories: Fabulae Terrificae
We will start meeting this Sunday, 10/8/2023 at 2:30pm EDT/8:30pm CET to read selected spooky Latin stories. The plan right now is to read selections from the Byland Abbey ghost stories, William of Newburgh, and our intermediate-level retelling of a story from Apuleius. The latter will be in our upcoming book Sagarum Crimina. We will meet in voice chat on the LLPSI Discord server. If you are unfamiliar with Discord and you are having trouble navigating, you can ping me (jescacorvina is my username) or ask for help in the channel #fabulaeterrificae. If you have any other questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to ask in that channel.
